Home Sweet Quarantine Home
We arrived home Monday April 6th. Crossing the border was easy (no one crossing except trucks), however the border officer collected our personal information to forward to Health Canada so they can follow up with us as we are in quarantine for 14 days. A big shout out and thank you to our neighbours Bill and Julie who will be dropping off groceries for us. When we arrived home we found some food and drinks already in our fridge.
We said goodbye to Sun Spirit until next January. She is covered and put to bed for the summer.
Some interesting observations from the drive home:
As we crossed the state line from Florida to Georgia on the I-95 we saw that all southbound cars entering Florida were being stopped and being asked if entry into Florida was essential. The trucks were not stopped and were able to drive through in a different lane. All the states that we travelled through had signs posted on the highway suggesting that everyone stay home. As a result the highways were very empty and the drive for us was a breeze. We had some food packed in the car for the journey and the 3 times we did stop for food/drink it was take-out only. Stores and restaurants were empty and we only saw cars parked at grocery stores and Walmart. It appears that the U.S. is finally taking the threat of the virus spread seriously.
I enjoyed watching the changing seasons in reverse! Florida was in early summer and by the time we got to the Carolinas, a glorious mid-Spring appeared. I attempted to identify the flowering trees as we flew by - Dogwoods, Redbuds, Cherries, Serviceberries, Pears, Crabapples and astonishingly Wisteria growing wild in full bloom. There was a significant drop in temperature in the mountains of West Virginia with many trees starting to bud out. By the time we reached northern Pennsylvania, only the Silver Maples were flowering.
We learned a lot on this trip and don’t regret going, but we are happy to be home and looking forward to trying again next year. So, this is the last blog post until then. I will leave you with pictures of our grandchildren who we won’t see now for quite some time we sure miss them!
