On The Way
We finally started moving on Tuesday Mar 10, slowly making our way south on the ICW.
We made it to Daytona and put the anchor down for the first time for an overnight stay.
The anchor worked fine and we both slept without any worry. Pulling the anchor up the next morning was an experience however as the chain and anchor were coated with black muck - lesson for us - figure out how to use the wash down hose at the bow to clean the muck while you pull it up.
On Wednesday we travelled to Titusville which is part of the Space Coast of Florida. There wasn’t any launches planned until the weekend however, so there was no point in hanging around. The marina here has mooring cans available for a very reasonable cost which included all the marina facilities - which you have to dingy to.

Gunter made a nice pasta dinner with some leftovers we had. Life on a boat is good.

There is a real strategy to get hooked up to one of theses moorings, for those of you who are not boaters. While the captain drives the boat slowly up to the mooring, the first mate (me) stands on the bow of the boat with a boat hook and bow line in her hands. You grab the little orange floater with the hook and quickly run your bow line through the “eye”. Meanwhile the captain can’t see whether you have actually got it or not or if he has got the boat anywhere close enough to do so. If you miss, then you have to turn around and try again or just drive to the next available mooring. After a challenging few minutes, we got it successfully rigged up.
We took the dingy into the marina and walked a couple of blocks to pick up some fresh food. American grocery stores have the craziest packaged sweets:
As we came back to the boat we had our first opportunity to get a nice photo of her.
This morning, after breakfast watching the sunrise, we took the dingy in again so we could shower at the marina.
We arrived in the town of Melbourne this afternoon and discovered we are staying in an area that has a huge training facility for paddlers and rowers. They have been paddling/rowing by the stern of the boat all afternoon and evening.
There are some Canadian teams too and a few of them have shouted out to us since they can see our flag and “Toronto” on the stern. They told us they are here to train - future Olympians I assume.
Chili for dinner tonight and then Gunter is going to make dough for baking cinnamon buns tomorrow- I know - I am a lucky lady!
Our grandson asked on FaceTime if we have seen any sharks, octopus or jellyfish yet since we told him we see lots of dolphins. Not yet, but who knows? Not even an alligator.
Tomorrow we are headed to Vero Beach - we have been told that it is nicknamed Velcro Beach because once you get there you never want to leave. We shall see - a story for another day.
