Arrived at Reynolds Yacht Center, Green Cove Springs
It took us five days to get back here and we are at the same dock waiting for our haul out. We are sad that this journey is ending but it is all for the best. Today we relax as the work starts tomorrow - getting this boat ready for summer storage and it is hot, hot, hot! Here’s how the week went after Telemar Bay last Wednesday:
Thursday - Titusville. We heard on the radio that there was a rocket launch that afternoon - a military communications satellite was being launched and we had the perfect view. They tell you a 2 hour window of time and unfortunately we missed the blast off but saw the rocket streaming up into space.

Friday - Daytona. The weekend had started in Daytona and we were rocking and rolling with all the speedboats passing us from both directions. The ICW becomes narrow and we had to keep a sharp eye out all the time. Some of the larger powerboats were nice enough to slow down and warn us on the radio that they were passing. Busier than the 401 on Saturday night!
Interesting how you still see damage from Hurricane Irma (2017). Many boats are just abandoned wherever they washed up. Not worth the hassle of an insurance claim or not insured I suppose.
Yum - pizza for dinner.
Saturday - St. Augustine. The boat traffic was worse on Saturday and we were looking forward to staying in a nice quiet marina for the night. Most marinas have their offices closed - you phone in to reserve and pay for a dock and don’t have any contact with the staff or other boaters. Saw this cute tug named for our daughter.
Sunday -Jacksonville. Still lots of traffic until we reached the Jacksonville area. We found a small anchorage in Sister’s Creek which was lovely.
It looks so serene but across the creek was a busy boat ramp - our entertainment for the evening was watching people load their boats onto their trailer. The Sheriff was patrolling looking for boats not obeying the slow speed zone but they didn’t seem to care about the obvious drinking that was going on. The governor of Florida issued a statement that all mariners must stay 50’ away from each other but who is going to police that? Impossible in marinas.
Early morning - all boat traffic gone and a beautiful view.
Monday - Green Cove Springs. Going through Jacksonville the challenge is dodging the huge container ships, tugs and this cruise ship.
No people on the ship except for staff who gave us a nice wave. There were other forlorn cruise ships at the docks. Not going anywhere for quite some time.
There are lots more boats here (mostly Canadians) at Reynolds waiting to get hauled out. We are on the list and the earliest it will happen is the end of this week. Tonight we relax and tomorrow the work begins to get Sun Spirit ready for summer storage. Seems strange that we are taking our boat out of the water when all our friends at Fifty Point are anxiously waiting to see when they can get their boats in the water.
