The Back Story
Here is the beginning of our story...
Gunter and I had been sailing our boat "Spirit" on Lake Ontario out of Fifty Point Marina for the past 11 years. With my retirement looming, we made the decision to sell her and purchase a bigger boat in Florida so that we could join our friends Steve and Lise ("Gaya") and sail to the Bahamas in the winters.
Spirit went to her new owners in July 2019 and we started looking in earnest. Our first trip to Florida at the end of July solidified our plan to look for a Beneteau 393 (just under 40' in length), but we came home without a purchase. Through some fortuitous circumstances we were able to connect with a Canadian couple who had decided to sell their boat after spending 16 years sailing to the Bahamas. We travelled back to Florida before Christmas to meet them and make a deal!
The boat is at a dock in Green Cove Springs, Florida on the St. John’s River south of Jacksonville. The closing date is February 3 but there are some transfer of registration and boat name change details that have to be finalized through Transport Canada before we can actually leave Florida. Once on the boat, we plan to do some sorting, organizing and cleaning while we wait for the documents. We are also hoping that we are able to use the name “Sun Spirit”, but again have to wait for official confirmation.

I hope to post on this blog weekly and hope that many friends and family will follow along as we venture forth on this journey. Stay tuned for an update from Florida! ⛵
